A little about the Burmilla

11843-205H_edited.png

The Burmilla’s origins date back to an accidental breeding that took place in the United Kingdom in 1981 between a male Chinchilla Persian and a female lilac European Burmese.  The result was a litter of four shorthaired female kittens so beautiful Baroness Miranda Von Kirchberg decided to embark on a breeding program to develop a new agouti cat. The Burmilla owes its spectacular shaded silver coat to the Chinchilla Persian and its intelligence and social nature to the Burmese.

The temperament of the Burmilla is a mix of the outgoing and mischievous nature of the European Burmese and the mellow nature of the Chinchilla Persian.  The Burmilla has a unique and charming temperament that is not extreme in any way.  They should be provided with lots of environmental enrichment (e.g., toys, cat trees), as they are an intelligent breed and thrive better when they can play and climb.  Energetic but not hyperactive, the Burmilla is quite content to lounge on the couch for long naps after regular bouts of spirited play.  Impish and lively, but also quiet and gentle, the Burmilla is a sweet-natured cat that is people oriented and loving without being needy.  The Burmilla gets along with dogs, other cats, and children, and even complete strangers will be quickly welcomed by a Burmilla.

The Burmilla is a medium sized cat with a muscular yet elegant body.  The head is sculptured in appearance with a rounded top head, medium broad muzzle and a well-developed chin.  The eyes are luminescent and any shade of green with a distinctive ‘make-up’ lining the eyes as well as the nose and lips.  Their most distinguishing feature is a silky, sparkling coat which is pale at the roots and tipped with color for a shimmering effect.
